8 Reasons Why You Should Have A Backlit Mirror In Your Bathroom September 4, 2016 Bathroom designed by Ki Design Studio. 1. They Look Nice Lights that hang over your mirror can be a bit of an eye sore. You can see their bulbs in the mirror and they take up valuable head space in a bathroom with low ceilings. A backlit mirror, however, offers the same amount of light but looks so much better while doing it. Bathroom remodel designed by Kendle Design Collaborative. Photography by Ilya’s Photography. 2. They’re An Even Source Of Lighting Backlit mirrors won’t cast shadows on you because they emit an even amount of light all around you. This makes them great for applying makeup, shaving, or styling your hair because it allows you to see yourself clearly without the shadows cast by traditional overhead lighting. Bathroom designed by Altius Architecture. Photography by Ihor Pona. 3. They’re Efficient Because they use LED lights, rather than incandescent ones, backlit mirrors use much less energy and last longer than ordinary lightbulbs would. Renovated bathroom designed by Marina Breves. 4. They Add A Sense Of Drama Backlit mirrors aren’t widely used (yet). Because of this they’re unexpected and create a dramatic effect for those who enter the bathroom for the first time. They also illuminate the space without creating the harsh shadows we’ve come to expect from our everyday lights. Bathroom designed by Benjamin Oliver AD. Photography by Dan Dealy and Lanny Nagler. 5. They’re Easy To Install You can run a strip of LED lights behind the mirror yourself and connect to a power source, or you can buy a pre-lit mirror and have it installed.  Here’s a DIY project to give you an idea of how to create one yourself. Hotel bathroom designed by Techné Architects. Photography by Prahan Hotel and Peter Clarke. 6. They Set The Mood When they’re the only light source in the bathroom, they create a glow unlike any other. Sure a candle gives off a nice, tiny glow, but a backlit mirror that emits a soft, even glow takes a relaxing bubble bath to a whole new level. Bathroom designed by Minosa Design. 7. Create A Sense Of Depth By using light behind the mirror, it essentially makes the mirror stand out and come off the wall, creating a layer of depth. Mirrors that are part of a cabinet help to create depth in the bathroom too. Bathroom designed by Specht Harpman Architects. Photography by Taggart Sorensen. 8. They Make You Look Good The soft glow of light that backlighting creates makes sure you always look great.
